Submit college application and clear BC vulnerable sector criminal record check

STEP 2

Community Support Program (Douglas / Stenberg)

Complete classroom and laboratory coursework at Douglas College or Stenberg College

STEP 3

Supervised Community Agency Practicum

Complete 6 to 8-week supervised fieldwork practicum with an approved agency

STEP 4

First Aid, Food Safe & Crisis Intervention

Complete First Aid with CPR-C, Food Safe Level 1, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention

Frontline Employment & Care Practice

Begin employment as a Community Support Worker in residential or community settings

What a day looks like

You assist individuals with disabilities or mental health challenges with life skills, meal prep, community outings, and personal care.

Watch out for

Practice calm verbal de-escalation for behavioural distress and use proper ergonomics during client transfers.

Where it can lead

You can advance to residential group home manager or specialized behaviour consultant.

You can also complete a Bachelor of Social Work to become a registered clinical caseworker.
