What a day looks like

Work takes place in acute care hospital diagnostic core laboratories operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as well as specialized provincial reference laboratories (bc centre for disease control, bc cancer pathology labs).

Watch out for

Be mindful of potential exposure to biohazardous patient blood samples, infectious pathogens (viruses, bacteria), and chemical fixatives (formalin) and follow all required safety procedures.

Where it can lead

Oversee a dedicated laboratory department such as transfusion medicine, flow cytometry, or clinical microbiology.

Manage automated analyzer data interfaces, clinical test validation, and provincial accreditation standards.
