Program Overview
Every year from age 26 to 65 the Canada Revenue Agency adds $250 to your Canada Training Credit limit, up to $5,000. When you pay tuition to an eligible school, you claim half of it, up to your limit, on your tax return. It is refundable, so you get it even if you owe no tax.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Who qualifies
- You were 26 to 65 at the end of the year.
- You filed a tax return and lived in Canada all year.
- You had working income above the CRA's minimum for the year and below the top of the third tax bracket.
- The school is eligible for the tuition tax credit.
COVERAGE & EXPENSES
What it pays
- Half of the tuition you paid, up to your credit limit.
- $250 added each year, up to $5,000.
- Refundable.
APPLICATION PROCESS
How to apply

Check your limit on your CRA notice of assessment.

Pay the tuition and keep the T2202 receipt from the school.

Claim it on line 45350 of your tax return.
