However, youth under 16 face horsepower limits: children under 12 can operate motors up to 10 hp unsupervised; youth 12 to 15 can operate motors up to 40 hp unsupervised; and operators must be 16 or older to drive personal watercraft (Sea-Doos/jet skis).
