What you need to get in
- Valid Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or First Responder 3 with CPR-BLS
- BC Class 5 driver licence (Class 3 or 4 with air brakes recommended)
- Physician medical clearance (NFPA 1582 medical baseline)

How to apply
- Apply online directly to the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) Fire & Safety Division
- Submit proof of prerequisite medical certifications and physician medical sign-off
- Attend mandatory pre-admission orientation and physical fitness assessment
- Submit tuition payment and reserve structural firefighting gear

- Structural fire suppression, flashover survival, and fire behavior science
- Forcible entry, ground and aerial ladders, ventilation, and search and rescue

- Pro Board / IFSAC standardized practical and written certification examinations
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
- Municipal fire department recruit hiring process
- An ICBC Class 3 commercial licence (allowing operation of 3-axle heavy fire apparatus and aerial trucks) or Class 4 unrestricted licence, with endorsement Code 15 for air brake systems and a clean driving abstract (no more than 3 to 6 penalty points).
