What you need to get in
- Minimum 15 years of age by course completion date
- Hold current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross certification
- Hold current Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED certification

How to apply
- Register through municipal parks and recreation centres, YMCA facilities, or Lifesaving Society affiliates
- Course fees vary by aquatic facility and municipal recreation centre (Canadian Lifesaving Manual and examination fees extra)
- Courses run year-round in intensive weekend or week-long school break formats

National Lifeguard certification
⏱ 44 Hours- 44 hours of combined classroom theory, pool deck scenario practice, and timed water rescue evaluations
- Lifeguarding principles: legal liability, preventative surveillance, pool scanning, and team communication
- Water rescue techniques: submerged victim retrieval, 9 kg brick object recovery from 3 m depth within 40 seconds
- Aquatic spinal injury management in shallow and deep water
- Emergency response team protocols, oxygen administration, and major incident coordination

- National Lifeguard practical exam evaluated by a certified Lifesaving Society NL Examiner
