Grade 11

  • General BC secondary school curriculum and coursework at the Grade 11 level.

Grade 12

  • Grade 10 completion with Math 10 and English 10 (Grade 12 graduation recommended)

What you need to get in

  • Active employer sponsorship registered with SkilledTradesBC
  • Fall protection certification
  • Fall protection certification and valid WHMIS

Step 4 of 8

How to apply

  • Secure employment with a roofing contractor registered as a sponsor with SkilledTradesBC
  • Submit Apprentice Registration Form to SkilledTradesBC to receive your trade registration number
  • Enroll in technical training blocks through the Roofing Contractors Association of BC (RCABC)
  • Apply for provincial/federal apprenticeship training grants and employment insurance during school blocks

Roofer apprenticeship

⏱ 6 Weeks per Level (3 Levels)
  • 3 progressive technical training blocks (6 weeks per level, 18 weeks total) at the RCABC training centre
  • Low-slope roofing: 4-ply built-up asphalt, modified bitumen torch-applied systems, and hot asphalt kettles
  • Single-ply thermoplastic (TPO, PVC) and thermoset (EPDM) membrane heat-welding and mechanical fastening
  • Steep-slope systems: architectural asphalt shingles, cedar shakes, slate, concrete tiles, and vapor barriers
  • Architectural sheet metal flashings, copings, valley gutters, and perimeter metal edge fabrication
  • RoofStar Guarantee inspection standards, moisture detection, and green vegetated roof assemblies

  • SkilledTradesBC standard Level 1, 2, and 3 technical examinations
  • Interprovincial Red Seal Examination (125 multiple-choice questions, minimum 70% passing grade)
  • SkilledTradesBC Certificate of Qualification with Red Seal Endorsement
