Up to $7,500 tuitionIf you are out of work or underemployed, a WorkBC case manager can approve and pay for this training. Get approval before you pay.
Canada Training Credit
Half your tuition back, up to $5,000 in your lifeFederal tax credit. $250 a year builds up from age 26. Claim it on your tax return.
BC Access Grant
Up to $4,000 a yearFor low and middle income students in full-time programs under two years at public schools. Assessed when you apply through StudentAid BC.
Money for apprentices
EI, a $4,000 loan per level and a tax creditWhile you are at school for each level. The old federal grants ended in 2025.

Step 1 of 8
Grade 11
⏱ 1 school year- Recommended: Grade 12 with English 12 and Math 11 (Foundations or Pre-Calculus)
- Mathematics 11. Requirement varies by school (British Columbia Institute of Technology, Okanagan College, Thompson Rivers University). Strictest requirement: standard completion.
- Physics 11
- Recommended: Workplace Math 11 or Foundations Math 11

Grade 12
⏱ 1 school year- Recommended: Grade 12 with English 12 and Math 11 (Foundations or Pre-Calculus)
- Recommended: Grade 12 with English 12

What you need to get in
- Registered apprentice with SkilledTradesBC and employer sponsor (or Electrical Foundation certificate)
- Registered apprentice with SkilledTradesBC with employer sponsorship, or Electrical Foundation certificate
- SkilledTradesBC apprentice registration with active employer sponsor, or Electrical Foundation certificate
- Registered apprentice with SkilledTradesBC and employer sponsor, or completion of Electrical Foundation
- Valid SkilledTradesBC apprentice identification number

How to apply
- Register for technical training blocks at an approved trade school (BCIT or Camosun College)
- Provide SkilledTradesBC apprentice registration number and employer verification
- Book training blocks in advance to coordinate with employer job site schedules
- Apply for federal apprenticeship incentive grants and Employment Insurance during classroom training

Electrical apprenticeship
⏱ 10 weeks per Level (4 Levels)- 4 levels of technical training (10 weeks per level, 40 weeks total over 4 years)
- DC and AC electrical theory, electromagnetism, and single and three-phase circuits
- Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and BC Electrical Safety Code regulations
- Industrial motor controls, transformers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and blueprint reading
- Hands-on conduit bending, panel wiring, instrumentation, and safety lockout procedures

- Camosun College — 10 weeks per level, 4 levels (About $1,200 per level)
- Kwantlen Polytechnic University — 10 weeks per level, 4 levels (About $1,500 per level)
- Okanagan College — 10 weeks per level, 4 levels (About $1,500 per level)
- Thompson Rivers University — 10 weeks per level, 4 levels (About $1,400 per level)
- Vancouver Island University — 10 weeks per level, 4 levels (About $1,200 per level)
